My name is Rathna Kumara. I grew up in Kandy, the cultural heart of Sri Lanka. For over 30 years I have lived at the intersection of two worlds — the precision of international business and manufacturing, and the warmth of Sri Lankan hospitality and culture. Everything I have built carries both of those souls.
I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration and did a Course in Inbound Tourism, but my real education happened across three decades of real-world experience, from the factory floors of Sri Lanka to the boardrooms of the Middle East.
A Journey Built on Two Foundations
The Business Mind
My professional career began at Noritake Lanka Porcelain, where over 5 years I grew from Junior Executive to Production Planner trained by Japanese advisors in the world-renowned methodologies of 5S, Kaizen, TPM, and Quality Circles. I learned that successful organisations are not built on gut feel. They are built on clean data, disciplined planning, and relentless improvement.
That foundation launched me into the Middle East, where I spent the next 23 years' operating at the highest levels of international manufacturing. My work spanned:
•Production Planning & Budgeting — keeping costs controlled and targets consistently achievable
•Material Planning & Stock Control —the right materials, in the right place, at the right time
•Lean Manufacturing — driving waste out of processes while protecting quality and output
• Custom ERP System Development — working directly with software development teams to design and implement a tailor-made ERP system for a live manufacturing environment
•International Buyer Coordination — managing supply relationships with buyers in the UK, Australia, and the USA
•People Management — leading teams not through pressure, but through clarity, respect, and a genuinely human working environment
•People Development & Knowledge Transfer — Trained and mentored dozens of professionals from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Egypt, and beyond. I believe in open, generous knowledge sharing — because when people grow, everyone wins. Many of those I trained are today thriving in careers across the globe.
My philosophy was simple but powerful: deliver the right product, at the right time, at the minimum cost — while keeping people happy. Pushing production targets does not require stressing people. When people work in a supportive, friendly environment, they exceed expectations naturally.
The Cultural Heart
Alongside my business career, I have spent over 30 years deeply connected to Sri Lanka's tourism industry — welcoming guests from France, Canada, Dubai, and beyond into my own home with open arms. I also brought that same spirit of warm, world-class hospitality to the iconic Kandalama, one of Sri Lanka's most celebrated properties.
But I also know our people — the millions of Sri Lankans spread across the world.
The Sinhala family in Toronto or Montreal. The Sri Lankan professional in Harrow or Neasden, London. The brother working hard in Dubai or Sharjah. The Tamil relative in Little Jaffna, Paris. The Sri Lankan mother raising children in Sydney or Melbourne. The worker sending money home from Riyadh or Kuwait City. The second-generation Sri Lankan growing up in Rome or Milan, carrying an island in their heart they have never fully seen.
